Company comparison
JTC South Dakota Trust vs Trident Trust (South Dakota)
JTC South Dakota Trust Company (formerly South Dakota Trust Company LLC) and Trident Trust Company (South Dakota) Inc. are both Sioux Falls public (TC.2) charters owned by international fiduciary groups. JTC's fact sheet describes product-free directed administrative trusteeship. Trident publishes directed, delegated, and discretionary trusts and runs a US corporate-services hub from the same office. Same roster class, different role menus. Not a ranking.

Both names are on the South Dakota Division of Banking September 2026 roster as public (TC.2) trust companies in Sioux Falls, and both sit inside larger international groups. That is the charter class. Directed-trust relief comes from SDCL chapter 55-1B and the instrument — see the South Dakota state file.
JTC’s February 2025 fact sheet reported $155 billion of assets under administration. That is a dated marketing figure from the firm, not a regulatory filing, and Trident publishes no comparable number on the pages reviewed — so it stays out of the table above. Ask JTC whether it has been updated.
The practical difference is the role menu. JTC describes product-free directed administration plus agency work for private family trust companies. Trident publishes directed, delegated, and discretionary seats and a corporate-services hub in the same office — keep any company-formation work on separate paper from the trusteeship. Read directed trustee vs corporate trustee and how to read a listing before you treat either homepage as the appointment.
What stays unknown
- Fees — neither listing reprints a schedule. Ask each firm; this page does not invent dollars.
- AUM / AUA — JTC published an assets-under-administration figure in a February 2025 fact sheet (see below); Trident does not publish one on the pages reviewed. This page does not put either into the table.
- Bonding, capital, or insurance figures for these two companies.
- Which group entity will sign the appointment — the South Dakota charter or another JTC or Trident office.
- Whether a given mandate is directed, delegated, or a full discretionary seat.
Questions people actually ask
Which of these two is better?
This page does not pick a winner. It places published charter, ownership, and directed-trust role fields side by side so counsel can see what each firm has actually said. A ranking would invent a score we do not have.
Is JTC South Dakota the same company as South Dakota Trust Company?
Yes — same charter, new name. The credential is still TC.020-2. The South Dakota Division of Banking approved the change from South Dakota Trust Company, LLC to JTC South Dakota Trust Company on 25 June 2026. Use the current legal name on appointment documents.
Why is there no size row?
Only one firm publishes a size figure, it is a marketing fact sheet rather than a regulatory filing, and assets under administration do not measure fit for a directed seat. Putting one number next to a blank would read as a score. The figure is described in the text below with its date.
