Corient Trust Company LLC is on the South Dakota Division of Banking September 2026 roster as a public trust company (TC.156-2), first issued 2 March 2023, at 212 S. Main Ave., Suite 160, Sioux Falls. Corient’s Trust Services page markets the charter as Corient Trust Company of South Dakota and states the corporate trust service operates under a directed trust model so the personal wealth advisor keeps oversight and discretion over trust assets.
That is an explicit directed-trust product. It is also an affiliate trustee for Corient Private Wealth / CI Financial. Form ADV Part 2A (31 March 2026 brochure) says the trust company is a South Dakota chartered affiliate and that trust services sit on a separate agreement and fees. Confirm who signs, whether a non-Corient advisor can direct on equal terms, and that South Dakota situs administration is actually in South Dakota.
What to verify next
Strong directed-trust thesis and a clean regulator credential. This is an affiliate trustee for a large RIA/family-office platform — confirm independence of investment direction when the advisor is also Corient, who signs the appointment, and appetite for non-Corient advisors. Ask for fee proposal; do not invent fees. Omit AUM.
